Along The Elbe - Independent Cycling
The Elbe River moving through parts of old East Germany connects historic castles, towns and settlements rich in art and culture located in a charming landscape. We visit world-famous Lutherstadt Wittenberg where German Reformator Martin Luther lived for many years, mediaeval town Torgau, and romantic Meissen well-known for its first European Porcelain Manufactory, Castle and Cathedral. Cycling along the Elbe passing nice wine-growing areas, you arrive Dresden as one of the finest cities in Germany known for baroque Zwinger and its art collections, Semper Opera and Church of Our Lady (Frauenkirche). Famous persons like Bach, Goethe, Schiller and Napoleon Bonaparte paid this town a visit in the past. Finally, our interesting trip leads you to Pillnitz Palace, a former summer-residence of King August the Strong in the 18th century, and Elbe Sandstone Mountains with Bastei viewing platform and Königstein, one of the largest fortresses in Europe.
